Picturesque landscape with fertile land, abundance of sunshine, a pleasant Mediterranean climate and gorgeous colours attract an increasing number of tourists.

The Turkish invasion caused the population to move over the mountain Kozjak down to the coast where soon started to build forts – castles. Around these castles small towns started developing with a very distinctive architecture it, later on, small towns have been developed with a distinctive architecture that has remained a permanent feature of the Kaštela districts that are now connected in today’s city. Each castle had the shape of a perfect square with the town square in the middle while the streets were laid out in right angles. The church was outside the walls first but was later encased by them.

When you visit Kaštela, do not miss the Vitturi castle on whose second floor is the Museum of the City of Kaštela, which includes: Archaeological Department, Cultural and Historical Section, Department of Contemporary Art and Pedagogical department. The Vitturi Castle is famous for the legend (from the second half 17th century) that describes the tragic fate of Miljenko and Dobrila, in many ways similar to the story of Romeo and Juliet. According to this legend many novels, dramas and operas have been written. On the sandy beaches of the western part of the Gulf, the tourist village Resnik with pavilions, bungalows and excellent tourist offer was built.
